Take Responsibility for Yourself by Preparing for Emergencies

Date November 14, 2007

Do you have health insurance, car insurance and life insurance? Whether it’s the law or not, being prepared for the worst can be a big relief. Most of us would never think of owning a home without home insurance. But do we think the same way about our basic survival needs?

Almost every one of us knows someone who takes emergency preparedness to an extreme. It might be your neighbor with his bomb shelter or your grandfather with the elaborate food storage setup that could feed him for over a year. The truth is we can probably learn a lesson from these people instead of just enjoying a laugh. Who do you think you would have to turn to if a real disaster ever did strike?

Rather than blowing your spending money on the latest fashions or more gadgets and gizmos, think about investing in some emergency kits instead. If there is one thing that will set people apart during a disaster, it’s responsibility. Those who plan for the worst will have taken responsibility for their own well-being. The ones with food storage systems will be able to eat. Those who invested in water purification systems will have safe water to drink. Which side will you be on?
